Compressed working weeks have seen a sharp rise in global popularity in recent years, particularly since the pandemic, allowing employees to do their weekly contractual hours in a flexible way. Just over a year ago, JDA took the decision to follow this trend and trial a 4-day working week. One of JDA’s company values is ‘Committed to our team having a good work-life balance’ and this was a potential way for us to uphold this commitment.
With a couple of exceptions, most of the team were keen to give it a go, each adjusting their days/hours to best accommodate their needs. We also recognised that, whilst some employees would thrive in this structure, others may find it challenging. It was important that we offer clear communication, collaboration, and flexibility across the team to successfully offer and implement.
There were many advantages to such a scheme, but those most significant at JDA were:
- Improved Work-Life Balance
- Reduced Commute Time & Costs
- Increased Employee Satisfaction
- Energy Savings
- Productivity Gains
- Talent Attraction and Retention
- Reduced Absenteeism
- Environmental Impact
One year later, and following a successful trial, we are pleased to say that the 4-day week is here to stay. As Rebecca, JDA’s Operations Director, explained, “The introduction of the 4-day week was a welcome addition to our existing flexible working policy. The team, and our clients, adapted to this new model and we have been delighted to witness first-hand the impact it has had across the business.”
